On Saturday morning, bright and early, Emily and I headed to the San Francisco Flower Mart for a little wedding flower prep with our man friends and my father. Growing up, I went to the Flower Mart with my daddy on a regular basis. He is a Horticulturist and does the staging for all of my mom's listings (shout out to Ruth Eddy with Better Homes and Gardens!). Walking up the front gate you are hit with the overwhelming stench of pee (gotta love SF) but once you walk through those big garage doors the floral aroma is intoxicating. Each vendor is set up with a sea of colors and textures-- it really is a feast for your senses. They have everything you can imagine-from moss to full blown tree trunks-giving you the feeling like you are in a fictional forest. What's funny is there is nothing special about the vendors. Flowers are shoved in buckets and hung from walls. Vendors that don't speak any English. The flowers simply sell themselves and give off such an amazing illusion.
All in all, it was a successful trip full of roses, eucalyptus, and dusty miller. The boys only found one thing that interested them, however, we got some really great ideas for the soon to be newlyweds!
