all in all it was really fun and tasted delishy... but hey, not everything is a win. ;)
em and i were feeling rather ambitious this fourth of july when we decided to make a flag cake... two of them actually. little did we know that wine and intricate cake layers do not really mix. what started out as a good idea slowly, very slowly, began to melt... just like the sides of our cakes. we have learned a few lessons making multi-layered cakes. one of them being: NO WINE. another: cold frosting is bad news--it completely crumbled the thin layers of our cakes. all in all it was really fun and tasted delishy... but hey, not everything is a win. ;) -s

We love love love wood burning. Sarah has a great wood burning kit with all different bits for different shapes. It's super easy to use, just really really hot - so be careful! We wanted to make a little house-warming gift for a friend and make some custom fun kitchen utensils. (You can always find cheap wood kitchen spoons and ladels at TJ Maxx.) And then we just decided on some patterns and started off - the trick is to hold it down until it starts to smoke a little and then lift up the edge of the tip to check that it has turned color and then keep on trecking. Keep in mind that each wood burns a little different so they will not look exactly the same, or perfect. But I think that's some of their charm. Also, your place will smell like a camp fire. Check them out! |
