A whole party for a 2 minute race? Yes please! Bring on the fancy hats, popped collars, and mint juleps. And don't forget to place your bets! We wanted to create a fun fancy atmosphere with good ol' southern food, delicious drinks and lawn games galore! Of course we painted anything we could get our hands on gold: toy horses, candle stick holders, terra cotta pots and horse shoes. We also wanted to bring a lot of color into the theme. We used free printables from 14 Hands Winery and framed them in antique barn wood, giving them a rustic feel. The mix of barn wood, bright flowers and gold accents gave it a very southern prep vibe. Emily and I had fun finding different little derby treasures from horse shoe stir sticks to straw flags that tied it all together. Everyone had to come dolled up in their best Derby attire: giant hats, short shorts, bow-ties and fedoras oh my! It was a great day full of fun games, betting, great food and lots and lots of bourbon!
